Two substitutions at Dinalog

Zijp | 02-07-2010

Prof. Dr. Ir. Henk Zijm will succeed Prof. Dr. Ir. Jo van Nunen as the chair for the Dinalog  International Scientific Advisory Committee.  Prof. Dr. Steef van de Velde is to step down as the Scientific Director of Dinalog. Dinalog will announce his successor very soon.

Dinalog is delighted with Prof. Zijm’s arrival. His knowledge and stature make him a worthy successor for Professor Van Nunen, who recently passed away in Vancouver.

Professor Zijm was the rector magnificus for the University of Twente in Enschede from 2005 until 2008.

He studied applied mathematics at the University of Amsterdam, obtained his PhD at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and worked for Philips for many years. In 1987, he also became a part-time professor at the TU/e. From 1990, Henk Zijm has been professor of Operational Research and Management at the University of Twente (UT). In addition, he was Scientific Director for the Centre for Telematics and Information Technology (CITT), and Dean for the faculty of  Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science .

On the 1st of July, Prof.dr. Steef van de Velde stepped down as the (part-time) scientific director of Dinalog. Professor Van de Velde is Vice Dean and Dean of Faculty for the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. Van de Velde has regretfully ascertained that it is not possible for him to combine his work at the Erasmus University with the position of scientific director of an institute like Dinalog that is just getting established. The Dinalog Board understands his decision, but considers it a great pity. The contribution that Professor Van de Velde made during the first phase and the ‘First Call for R&D Projects’ was very valuable.

The Dinalog board is still considering the candidates for the position and will announce the name of Van de Velde’s successor very soon.
