Cross Chain Control Collaboration (4C)

Dinalog and TKI Logistics merge to become TKI Dinalog

Breda, 10 July 2015. The merger between Dinalog, Dutch Institute for Advanced Logistics, and TKILogistics is complete. The two foundations will proceed under the name TKI Dinalog. NWO, TNO and Dinalog will work together in TKI Dinalog on logistics and supply chain management innovation.

On Thursday 9 July the members of the board of TKI Dinalog in Breda signed the final documents at Dinalog. This concludes a transitional process that lasted more than a year.

TKI Dinalog performed the research component of the innovation agenda for the Top Sector Logistics. This builds on the projects and results from the first 5 years at Dinalog. Chairman Willem Heeren: “A transition such as this is always an intensive process; we are operating at the intersection of the public and private sector. As an institute, we bear great responsibility for the sector, scientific research and government. This transition has readied us for the future. We have a large project portfolio, with more than 60 projects, in which we work with around 700 companies, 30 knowledge institutes and government. The results we achieve work in practice, and this attracts new companies and ideas for projects. I’m more than satisfied”.

The completion of the transition was also the perfect moment for Remco Overwater to leave the institute where he had worked from the very beginning. First, as a member of the board and for the last 3 years as the managing director. After the signing of the documents by the board, very ceremoniously, he handed over the keys of the property to Albert Veenstra. Veenstra will remain the scientific director for Dinalog and the TKI, and will take on the other managing director’s tasks. “I’ve got it made. Before me lies a robust institute, the roadmaps for research and the projects on which we’re working were reviewed this spring. There are a number of major challenges with which we can cover a lot of ground in the coming year. For example, the effective integration of rail transport in synchromodal networks. The connection between education and the labor market is another. We can make a really useful contribution through the transformation of project results into educational curriculum, and through researching developments in the logistics labor market. But also in the area of e-commerce and e-fulfilment extra effort is required, as a consequence of the increasing pressure on urban distribution. Or the increasing demand for connectivity in goods transport. More and more trucks, but also load bearers are equipped with chips. There is an incredible wealth of knowledge to be gleaned for the optimization of processes and for reducing kilometers travelled, costs and CO2 emissions. But how can you get all these things to communicate with each other and ensure that SMEs dispose of the means and knowledge for analyzing and employing the data? I plan to dedicate my energy to the sector, the industry organization and the other knowledge institutes in the coming few years. As Remco handed me the keys, he called them the keys to success. I challenge the sector to come to TKI Dinalog with questions and problems and to work together for success”.
