Regions of Knowledge
Wim Bens, Managing Director Dinalog | 29-07-2010
On July 19th a call was opened for ‘Regions of Knowledge’ part of the FP7 Capacities Program of the European Commission. This is the first Capacities Work Program in accordance with the Europe 2020 Strategy, which sets clear priorities on developing an economy based on knowledge and innovation ("smart growth"). One of the flagship initiatives of this strategy is the Innovation Union, which aims redirecting R&D and innovation policies on the challenges currently facing our society. Where appropriate and within the existing legal framework, the FP7 Work Program will support the implementation of the Innovation Union initiative.
Within the Capacities Program ‘Regions of Knowledge’ has a focus on Transport and Logistics. Dinalog has taken the lead on behalf of a European Consortium to apply for funding with a proposal for collaboration on a European scale.
Partners in this consortium are MIT-Zaragosa Logistics Centre in Zaragosa, Spain, NGIL - Next Generation Innovative Logistics in Lund, Sweden, House of Mobility and Logistics in Frankfurt, Germany and Dinalog.
The intention of the project is to set up collaboration between the four institutions and their local networks. Research and the exchange of best practices will primarily focus on the three themes of Dinalog, Cross Chain Control Centers, Multi Company Service Logistics and Main Ports and Hubs in Control. One of the work packages will focus on realization of an exchange program between research professionals, students and valorization professionals. Another work package will focus on an initiative called “The research conversion factory”, trying to convert research results to practical solutions and commercial products. A third work package will focus on a top educational program for logistics professionals.
