Logistics in the construction industry
Start: December 2010
Period: 4 years
The objective of this project is to demonstrate a new logistic 4-C concept in the construction sector. Ballast Nedam will fulfill a leading role in developing and demonstrating a new logistic concept together with multiple supply chain partners. The project has a duration of 18 months and consists of 6 Work Packages. The consortium coordinates and organizes the purchasing, production and distribution of building materials across individual supply chains. The new logistic 4-C concept will be implemented in the production of Ballast Nedam’s precast IQ houses. IQ houses are prefabricated in an industrial environment. The project partners commit to an economic objective of 8% tot10% reduction in logistic costs and a sustainability objective of X % reduction of CO2 emission resulting in possible price reductions for tender offers of 3-5%. Because of the innovative character of this project, it has the potential to be widely adopted in the construction industry. To ensure a quick adoption, the project includes several dissemination activities such as seminars, publications, demonstrations. Main objective is to demonstrate the new supply chain strategy to at least 50 companies in the construction sector.
