SIEEG
Start: May 2011
Period: 4 years
Combi Terminal Twente and its project partners in the SIEEG project have identified three bottlenecks responsible for a decreased efficiency in the total logistics chain of main ports. Thus, if the if the efficiency of Rotterdam Main Port is not increased The Netherlands could lose its role as Europe’s logistics gateway.
The bottlenecks are identified as:
-
the congestion of infrastructural networks surrounding the main ports;
-
the lack of an adequate interface to mediate between heterogeneous data from the parties involved in multi-modal hinterland transportation;
-
the need for extended gate functionality to enable the efficient and secure flow of goods between deep sea terminals and the European hinterland.
In this project a new ICT based method, called the SIEEG functionality, is demonstrated by CTT and partners to directly attack these bottlenecks described above and thus increase logistics efficiency. The SIEEG functionality consists of a webservice which gives insight into relevant data regarding the handling and transportation of goods 24/7:
-
which enables logistical agents to plan, manage and synchronize available capacity (people, modalities and space) ;
-
which benefits the efficiency of the logistical process;
-
which benefits the transnational transportation of goods, specially to/from areas with heightened security standards.
