Value creation by closing the loop

Start: December 2010
Period: 4 years

Sustainability goals are most effectively addressed when considered a business opportunity.  A closed loop supply chain creates ecological and economical value. The key idea behind the Dinalog innovation theme Cross Chain Control Center (4-C) is to create economies of scale through inter- and intra supply chain collaboration. A closed loop supply chain can only be realized with critical mass through horizontal and vertical coordination. In order to govern this coordination across supply chains the development of a Product Routing Algorithm (PRA) is needed. 7 Different Work Packages are developed to implement and validate the PRA. The Research & Development activities emphasize collaboration between companies and the importance of the human factor.  The Steering Committee that leads the project consists of one representative of RSM, UvT and 12Return complemented by the Work Package leaders. One major goal is  to develop a framework of conceptual models and algorithms for 4-C in the context of closed loop supply chains and the start up of a 4-C business for coordinating closed loop supply chains. Ultimately the goal is to conduct top academic research for publication in international, peer reviewed journals and to realize spin offs to other 4-C organizations. By mid January the factsheet of the project will be published on our website.
