Copal Development takes a new Spidergripper into production

Press release, 4 February 2014

A solution for the automatic unloading of bags and bales

Copal Development has developed a so-called Spidergripper for the unloading of jute bags and bales filled for instance with cacao, coffee, nuts or tea. With this gripper, which can be easily connected to a Copal C2 Container Stripper, it is now possible to unload jute bags automatically. Not only does this mean a saving on time and costs, but also the heavy physical effort of employees becomes history.

The jute bags are taken out of a container by a unique fully automatic mechanism and placed on an extendible conveyor belt. The bags are transported by the conveyor belt and then fully automatically palletized for further transportation or storage. Loading and unloading containers normally costs a lot of time and manpower and therefore a lot of money too. To prevent overloading and permanent injury of employees, Copal Development has been designing and producing container stripping and palletizing systems for some years. Besides reducing operational costs, these systems ensure faster and more efficient production and turnaround times.

Spidergripper

This newly developed gripper can turn 90 degrees and has several rotation and tilting points. This means that bags and bales which are not lying flat, but are for instance lying askew over each other, can be picked up and deposited on the Copal C2 conveyor. Also sensors ensure the automatic positioning of the gripper and the Copal C2 Container Stripper operating system has been expanded with all the functionalities of this innovative gripper.

Quick coupler

All Copal systems are equipped with quick couplers, meaning the replacement of grippers can be done in just a matter of minutes. This makes the systems multifunctional in use so that different sorts of goods can be processed, such as boxes, trays, plastic bags, and jute bags but they are also suitable for unloading various other types of goods and materials.

Palletizing bags

Besides the new gripper for picking up bagged goods, Coral Development also offers the customer specific solutions for palletizing bags and bales, fully automating the entire process of unloading and palletizing bagged goods.
