SPoT

The main goal of this demonstration project is to reinforce the hubs in control of the logistic chain and to enable synchro modal transport. This helps to support an efficient, sustainable and reliable handling of the increasing flow of goods from mainports of Antwerp and Rotterdam which are transported via strategic located inland terminals to the European hinterland. Thereby, the current Dutch capacity of various modalities and current infrastructure will be optimized, the transport service level through The Netherlands is increased and pricing is more attractive compared to competition.

The project is executed by a consortium which identifies with the main parties of the supply chain. The execution of the demonstration at the cojoined inland terminals will focuss on attracting and handling a larger flow of goods from and towards the mainport of Rotterdam, but also cross-border from the mainport of Antwerp, and the European hinterland; therefore creating strong hubs in control in the hinterland region, the Port of Twente, and an efficient and high trust logistical network in The Netherlands. SPoT is closely connected to the SIEGG Demo project

Expected results
The expected result of the SPoT project is to offer real-time insight in events in the supply chain, and to be able to influence these events by offering a decision support tool for synchromodality. This functionality leads to a higher efficiency in costs and delivery times, sustainability and reliability. With this SPoT-functionality the hubs in control are able to stretch the delivery window by 50% offering clients a larger range of flexibility while the reliability of transport is guaranteed. The SPoT-platform enables the optimization of the existing capacity of the various modalities and infrastructure. Due to the SPoT-functionality the inland terminals are able to handle a larger flow of goods, thus helping The Netherlands to reinforce their position as key export country.

Innovation
The innovation lies in the enriched datasets, derived from secure information exchange, which enable a decision support tool which not only tracks and traces, but also informs about real-time events in a certain trajectory of the supply chain and suggest synchromodal alternatives.

Furthermore, the SPoT-platform is applicable in practically all IT-systems of supply chain partners via the webbased API. The decision support tool for synchromodal transport service is suitable for clients with large volumes but is also suitable for the business processes of local clients with smaller volumes.
