The transport sector accounts for 28.5% of GHG emissions, with international shipping contributing 3.6%. To achieve climate neutrality by 2050, emissions must be reduced by 90% from 1990 levels. The Netherlands, as a major fruit importer, faces challenges in transporting perishable goods, where refrigeration increases emissions by 80% and 14% of products are lost in transit. The "Fresh Logistics with IoT in Sea-based supply chains" (FLITS) project aims to reduce food waste and GHG emissions through sensor-based, data-driven models and AI solutions. FLITS focuses on innovative logistics management to enhance product value while meeting EU sustainability goals.
